INTRODUCTION

In order for the Food Processing sector to work efficiently, be competitive in the international market, produce safe quality products accepted worldwide, it becomes inevitable that sooner or later the Indian food processing sector adopts the integrated approach through the entire food supply chain which involves farmers, traders, food processors, distributors and retail stores. In light of India being a member of WTO, the agriculture and food processing sector will have to view this seriously as otherwise we will have the threat of agricultural commodities as well as food products imported from other countries into India in a big way which means that our farmers, food processing industries and others in the chain will be seriously hit.  An integrated approach to the food supply chain will help overcome the various drawbacks in the present system and provide benefits and impetus for a healthy growth of the agri-processed food sector.

THE CONCEPT

AFPL is one of the key enterprises  conceptualized by GIFTOP Pvt. Ltd., (Global  Integrated Food Technology Operations Project Pvt. Ltd.,) to establish a world class, purpose built, hazzle free food processing environment i.e. the food park meeting international standards.  The AFPL will be the catalyst in integrating the various links of the food supply chain viz., backward linkage, trade, processing industries and the forward linkage.  In other words it will be working with the “Farm to Fork” concept. AFPL aims at tapping the true potential of the agriculture, horticulture, medicinal crops, bio-fuels and their value addition business and turn it into a win- win situation for the key stakeholders in the food supply chain.  The ultimate aim is to see sparkling eyes and smiling faces among the farmers, traders, food processors, food handlers and consumers – “we mean the society at large”.  AFPL  will play a major role in making this dream come true.

Success depends not only on the individual food processing industries, but also on overall conditions.  AFPL ensures the entire food park is optimally developed, with facilities that relieve you of the hassles of water, power, raw material, effluent treatment, laboratory facilities, solid waste disposal, training and seminar facilities etc.,

THE COMPANY

AFPL is a Private Public Partnership initiative, a joint venture company with the Government of Karnataka where the private partner holds majority stake (74%)stake, while the Government holds 26%. This model has been selected as this is an infrastructure project in the area of agriculture  and requiring Government support. This initiative is the result of Government and Industry working side by side to develop shared vision based on common goals.  The Government of Karnataka has created a special purpose vehicle to spearhead the agribusiness initiative including setting up of Agro Food Parks. 

1. To identify and remove impediments to growth in the agribusiness sector
2. Create and built an environment for sustainable investment and growth
3. Encourage a world competitive production and distribution chain
4. Build marketks and grow market access
5. Grow consumer acceptance of value added foods.

5. To catalyse the growth of organic foods, medicinal and herbal products and neutraceuticals which has business potential and beneficial to society
6. To facilitate Production and processing of Quality and Safe food products which are hygienically grown and processed.
